Simply Dance was established in 2002 by Melissa Neilsen, who moved to Ayr from Brisbane after completing her dance teaching diploma. While studying, Miss Melissa taught for one of the biggest dance schools in Brisbane. Miss Melissa had the privilege of working with teachers and dancers such as Barbera Everson (ADPI), Harold Collins (Queensland Ballet) and Joseph Aitken (Hamburg Ballet Company). She has now been teaching dance for 16 years, 13 of those years being in the Burdekin. Miss Melissa is a FULLY QUALIFIED teacher with the Royal Academy of Dance, Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dancing, Glenn Wood Tapping and has an Advanced Diploma in Teaching Dance. This school offers dance classes in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Funk, Contemporary, Body Conditioning and Xtend Barre. Simply Dance accepts all students over the age of 4 years, where class numbers permit.
This is a family orientated school where participation is the key. All students are given the opportunity to dance in the end of year concert, as each student is as important as the next. Participation in classes opens the doors to the world of dance, providing each student with strong technical and performance skills as well as enhancing their personal development-not forgetting the pleasure and enjoyment of friendships experienced by all during the year.
Participation in classes opens the doors to the world of dance, providing each student with strong technical and performance skills as well as enhancing their personal development-not forgetting the pleasure and enjoyment of friendships experienced by all during the year. Simply Dance and its employees endeavor to provide a safe and friendly environment for all ages. At Simply Dance, students will find a wonderful balance between technique and enjoyment. We believe in teaching safe dance and therefore teach our students to respect their growing bodies. Flexibility and strength must be taught together in order to allow the body to develop in the correct way.
Our mission, is to provide the students with self-confidence, self-discipline and healthy co-ordination skills, while continually developing the artistic passion of dance to all students. Our teaching staff look forward to passing on their wealth of knowledge, expertise and passion of dance to all students.

We at Simply Dance are very proud of the success of our past students. Not to be forgotten are our ballet students who have gained their Advanced 2 Certificates while studying at Simply Dance - Rebecca Mottin, Lori Mackay, Genevieve Fahey & Mia Cerqui. Advanced 2 is the highest level of the Royal Academy of Dance, apart from Solo Seal which is usual sat by full time students, and rarely gained.
Xtend Barre was launched at our studio in October last year and will continue to be offered this year. Simply Dance is the only place that Xtend Barre is currently offered in the Burdekin. The night of our launch party, we introduced our fully qualified instructor Bronwyn Nucifora and celebrated this international product being offered in our region.
We at Simply Dance are so looking forward to another year of working with the students to make a fun, safe and rewarding experience for all involved. We look forward to passing on our love of the performing arts with exciting new twists!
